On Air Design
unspoken narrative
Just like a strong Corporate Design defines a brand, On Air Design sets the tone of a program before a single word is spoken. From opening titles to lower thirds and transitions, every element helps crack open the mood, genre, and attitude of the content at a glance. In documentaries, where storytelling must stay impartial yet compelling, motion design acts as a quiet narrator, guiding, framing, and enhancing without stealing focus. Blending typography, illustration, and animation, the design should feel seamless and consistent. Subtle, but unmistakably clear.

Mapping the Invisible Web
Galore Films – Die Zelle, Putins Wiener Spione
For the On Air Design of Die Zelle — a documentary investigating Russian spy networks in Austria — I was asked to visualize the hidden web of connections between agents. The filmmaker initially imagined a classic red-string-on-a-police-board setup, but I suggested a more organic and unsettling approach: mold slowly spreading across translucent layers. This direction subtly echoed the secrecy and danger of espionage, using shifting textures, cryptic codes, and blurred elements to suggest hidden truths emerging. The result? A quietly gripping visual narrative that support the story without ever cracking the documentary’s impartial shell.

Shaping the Sound of History
RAUMFILM — Wellen der Zeit, 100 Jahre Radio in Österreich
For Wellen der Zeit, a documentary celebrating Austria’s radio history, I aimed to visually capture the invisible audio elements that give radio its unique character. Static noise, wavy electric grids, and glowing waves echo the rhythm of radio signals, while snappy text animations pay homage to classic receivers without feeling dated. The challenge was to keep the design fresh and relevant, proving that radio still holds a powerful voice today.

A Fresh Coat Without Cracking the Shell
PULS24 – REDESIGN
In 2021, Puls24 underwent a major redesign, unveiling a new concept and logo animation developed by an external motion design studio. As an in-house designer, my role was to adapt the channel’s essential elements (from animated credits to newsroom sets) ensuring everything aligned seamlessly with the fresh, updated design language. The biggest challenge was updating some existing programs without cracking their familiar feel, so loyal viewers wouldn’t feel lost. It was all about keeping the balance between fresh and familiar, shelling out a smooth viewing experience.
